A breath of fresh air! New book cover design for emerging writer
While at Indigo I spend a lot of time critiquing and studying book covers; they provide lots of design inspiration too. I was approached by a Toronto writer to design a cover for his new book; I was delighted to accept the challenge and really enjoyed the experience. The author and publisher of Core Driver Press is an emerging voice in the ‘self-help’ genre and his new book is an essential addition to anyone’s library. The book is structured in easy-to-read short chapters that dive into 35 essential life behaviours that guide life choices and build self-improvement. Three-point takeaways offer short recaps of each chapter. Read it cover-to-cover or use it as a practical reference tool when you just need to reset and refresh your thoughts and intentions.
With an understanding of the book’s content and structure, I developed sketches on different visual themes and put them together in a PDF presentation deck. Summery green grass highlighted with sunbeams evokes a sense of wonder, exploration and understanding. The client loved this idea. He wrote and produced the book on Kindle Direct Publisher (KDP) - it’s an intuitive and easy self-publishing site. Two versions of the cover were built to KDP’s guidlines for the printed book and Amazon’s e-reader Kindle.
Definitely recommended reading. You can find Essential Life Behaviors by Martin Neil Campbell on amazon.com.
“Tom did an excellent job of designing my latest book’s cover. He gave me multiple options to consider, and was quick and efficient with the changes I and my editor required. Overall I could not be more pleased with the final design and would contact him first for my next book.”
